Role Descriptions

General Member

(Must be in highschool)

  • Take part in BrainSTEM Volunteer activities

  • Participate in workshops, events, and educational initiatives 

  • Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment during BrainSTEM activities

Mentor

(Must be a minimum 3rd year university student studying in a STEM-related field, studying medicine, or work in a medical field)

  • Provide academic, professional, and personal guidance to students

  • Support workshops, talks, and educational initiatives

  • Share experiences and insights in science, medicine, research, or related fields

FAQ

Do I need prior experience to apply?

No prior experience is required for general member roles. Mentors are selected based on background and interest in supporting students.

Who can apply to get involved with brainSTEM?

BrainSTEM welcomes students and professionals who are interested in the brain, science, medicine, and community engagement.

Are opportunities in person or virtual?

Opportunities may be in person, virtual, or a combination, depending on the initiative.

What is the minimum member participation requirement?

Members of the BrainSTEM Youth Program are expected to participate at least once within a 50-day period to maintain active membership. Acceptable forms of participation are outlined in the agreement provided to accepted members. Members who remain inactive beyond this period will have their membership status revoked and may reapply if they wish to rejoin.

How much time is the commitment?

Time commitments vary by role and opportunity. Members and mentors can choose their participation based on their  availability as long as they meet the minimum member participation requirement.

When will I hear back after applying?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be contacted with next steps within 2 weeks of submitting the form.
